Saskatchewan Jazz Festival 2011.

Recently added Print project: Saskatchewan Jazz Festival 2011. With a lineup of artists hitting almost every music genre possible, it's hard to believe they call it the "Jazz Fest". For their 25th anniversary, we set out to reinvent and redesign the festival by moving them in a more energetic direction; one that was paired tighter wtih sound and experience. Rich, and filled to the edge with a bold clash of typographic details, pattern and color, this year's materials embraced a spontaneity and energy unlike any year before.

Holiday Pop-up Shop 2011 Install.

A few Saturdays ago, Nick Adam and I set up an installation with custom built balloon letters and threaded chain link fence lettering. The end goal was a shoot to achieve the right image for a flyer that would get the word out to the public regarding the details of the Holiday Pop-up Shop at Firebelly's space. Above is the time lapse video of the install. You can also see some process photos from the buildout here. Come by on December 10th from 11-5pm to do some local shopping of items crafted by Chicago's coolest creatives. 50% of all sales will be donated to Reason to Give families for holiday gifts.

Designer as Author Series: Paul Shaw.

As well as AIGA Chicago's write-up of the event, National has a deeper read on the subject that provides a nice teaser for the event on the 16th of November. Read it here. Lastly, have a look at his site.

From AIGA Chicago: The story of signage on the New York City Subway System is both a long and fascinating tale. Once a bewildering hodgepodge of lettering styles, sizes, shapes, materials, colors, and messages, the signs began a radical transition in the mid-1960s. In the hands of design firm Unimark International, the system’s mess gave way to the clarity that reigns today, with station names, directions, and instructions in crisp Helvetica. Ultimately, order triumphed over chaos—but the journey was anything but easy. New York design historian and lettering artist Paul Shaw knows the story better than anyone, and he’ll be on hand to share it with us on November 16.

A New Site.

I'm currently porting over all my work, efforts and endeavors to this new site. I'll have more on why I've made the switch, future goals for the new site and snags along the way. Most of the projects are here but there's a few left at my old site which didn't make the cut. Hang tight, almost done...
